Chess in Kent

Kent has a thriving chess scene, with clubs across West and North Kent, south-east London (KCCA-affiliated) and East Kent. This page lists every club we know of, with its night, venue and fixtures — and each part of the county has its own guide: Maidstone, Medway, Bromley & Orpington, Sevenoaks, Gravesend, Dartford, Sidcup, Sittingbourne, Snodland, Cranbrook & the Weald and Tonbridge.

Competitive chess in the county is organised by the Kent County Chess Association — kentchess.org — whose leagues most of the clubs below play in. Bringing a junior player? Junior chess in Kent covers school clubs, junior nights and the county tournament scene. And if you like numbers, Kent’s rated players and clubs since 1994 are charted at /uk-chess-statistics/kent/.

Picking a club? Most clubs welcome visitors for a try-out night — just check the night suits and turn up, or drop the club a line first. If you’re near Tunbridge Wells, you’re very welcome to visit us first — and if another night or location fits better, everything below is a good option.
